Music for the New Missal, Now Completed

The music for the new Missal has been completed, archived at MusicaSacra.com and also reposted on the Cafe. Every blog, every website, every parish, no matter what institution or publisher, is free to post these embeddable videos online, on facebook, on email, or however. You can use them in parish tutorials or in any other manner you choose. They are a free gift of the CMAA to the whole Church and world.

    Will this chant be mandatory for this Eucharistic Prayer?
    For I believe that if not it will be ignored by the majority of priests.

  2. The sublime returns to the Ordinary Form. Sublime = Rudolf Otto's "holy" seen from an aesthetic, rather than religious, perspective.

  4. Beautiful. The new translation is a major improvement over the old N.O. I would hope that the rubrics will require the canon to be chanted by the Celebrant. Historically, almost the whole liturgy should be chanted including the scripture readings.

  8. This priest *will* be thrilled to sing them! I, like many poor priests, can't read sheet music or notation, so hearing them aloud brings them to life off the page.

  11. Beautiful text! Please be merciful to those of us among the clergy who can't carry a tune in a steel reinforced bucket. Frankly, you don't want to hear me sing/chant.

  12. I am confused. Is this part of the Mass supposed to be sung on certain occasions? I have never, ever heard it sung. I thought there was no such thing as a "High Mass" or "Solemn High Mass" in the Novus Ordo. Is there?

  13. As a traditionally minded priest who celebrates both the EF and the OF regularly, I have never been impressed by the practice of chanting the Eucharistic Canon.

    Even in the Novus Ordo, it seems that the Canon can/should be said silently (at least sometimes)…Joseph Ratzinger argued for this in "The Spirit of the Liturgy"…

    In the Western tradition, chant has always been used to help make the prayers more intelligible and audible for the people…why would we want to do this with the Eucharistic Prayer, which has never been heard by the people in our tradition?

    The chant will be popular among a very small group of conservative priests who are yet largely ignorant of the Church's Liturgical heritage…very few others will pick it up.
