Troparion for the Dormition

Since I was traveling on the feast, this is a few hours late – but this great feast was once a “Double of the First Class with a Common Octave,” so I think we can keep rejoicing. This video gives you a sense of the variety of chants and styles that developed in the Orthodox Churches from Greek to Arabic, Church Slavonic and English.

  1. Listening to this music I can appreciate why the eastern church looks upon the spirit as proceeding from the Father and not the Father and Son. I have so much to learn from the orthodox traditions. Thank you for sharing a small piece from their vision.

  2. I fail to see how this music relates to the Holy Spirit as proceeding only from the Father.
