Maybe it is just me, but I cannot imagine the Novus Ordo in the vernacular, purposely facing the assembly, as having the same meaning for these brave soldiers and sailors. This low Mass brought that peace and Divine comfort at the time it was needed. The babbling that the priest has to do to the people in the Novus Ordo (almost always) cannot achieve this.
It has been said that WW2 had a strong influence on the Vatican II Council, and I could not help thinking while watching this video how the Mass of the Ages was associated with that war and how non grata it was at the Council (i.e. it needed reform) for those who lived through the war (almost everybody), I think the Council completely missed the sign of the times because so many there were still living with WW2 in mind, particularly the Germans who had a great influence on the Council.
