Yesterday, the conductor-less polyphonic chamber choir Stile Antico, recently featured on the Chant Café, performed and discussed some of the music from their latest recording “Song of Songs” on the BBC Proms. I thought it might a good follow up to our previous coverage of this fantastic young British polyphonic group.
Does this inspire anyone else?
This is an amazing show. Amazing performances. Best polyhpony ever.
Listen to the interviews too. They take turns walking around and listening. They make sure to never stand next to their part singers. They try not to stand next to the same person. There is no director of course.
I've been listening to the Song of Songs album more or less nonstop since you recommended it a few months back, Jeffrey. It's largely been the soundtrack of my year.
Stunning and inspiring indeed. And that I can play this as background music to mundane tasks makes it even more a fulfillment. Thanks Adam, for the find. Stile Antico needs to forge a path west so that we can enjoy them in person. Making the world more beautiful, one square note at a time.
Oh, that's who it was! I heard a few minutes of the broadcast in the car & meant to look it up later but never got round to it. The few minutes I heard were stunning, as I'd expect from this group.
